Aqeel Ahmed; Self-made Film Director
Aqeel Ahmed, also known by his birth name Mohammed Aqeel
Ahmed), is an London-born film and video director, CG artist, film
producer, writer and illustrator.
He studied to be an animator and visual effects artist, receiving a 1st in
his Bachelor of Arts in Digital Animation. He also studied Japanese, and
is able to speak, read and write it.
When asked about the numerous job titles he has, he jokingly referred
to himself as a ‘Jack of all trades, but the King of all of them too!’
Even on his official blog and website (www.aqeel.co) the tag line ‘a
creative with no titles…’ is visible under the main header.
He first gained notice with Alienated (2008), his student VFX short-film
about Al, an alien, trying to find acceptance on our World.
The film was a finalist at the Virgin Media Shorts Awards in 2008, so
was then shown in theatres and TV across Great Britain and Northern
Ireland.
The film also went on to win several awards in film and animation
festivals around the World, building Aqeel’s reputation as a rising
film director and animator. Years later, Alienated is still popular
internationally, being viewed tens of thousands of times on the internet.
In 2009, Aqeel went on to write, produce and direct the short-film
Shattered Pieces. It was shown in film festivals in all corners of the
World.
Even though it received a lot of critical acclaim in the film festival circuit,
Aqeel felt that it needed a wider audience that wouldn’t normally be
exposed to short-films of it’s nature. So in 2010, he uploaded Shattered
Pieces onto the internet for people to watch, free of charge.
Now, Aqeel is directing films, music videos and TV commercials
as a freelancer. He is also launching a YouTube channel, AqeelTV to showcase his work, personal projects and teach
others how to make films.
Aqeel Ahmed has a very large internet presence, spanning many websites and social networks. His main blog and website can be found at Aqeel Ahmed. You can also find Aqeel on Youtube, where he posts regular videos to his subscribers at http://Aqeel.tv
