Tag Clouds May Hurt Search Engine Optimization–Google

Google’s Matt Cutts dishes out the latest on tag clouds and how it impacts search engine optimization. To start off, tag clouds are the visuals you see on the left or adequate side bar of a blog web site which are made up of words or tags that are actually links to the tag pages on the site. Frequently used tags appear bigger than those that are seldom employed. Cutts said there was a time when tag clouds were so huge in blogging that a lot of bloggers used them to make the site more appealing. But according to Google, using tag clouds may not be dependable for search engine optimization.

Cutts explained that tag clouds can be overdone, and when that happens, Google may perceive it as keyword stuffing, a major no-no in search engine optimization. SEO is based on good content with just the fitting keyword density to make a website rank.

Creating categories is proposed, not producing tag clouds. Cutts said that he uses this scheme himself. With categories, visitors are rendered smart directory of subjects salient in the blog, which may be the one they find of value to them. With more visitors delighting the content, posting comment, and coming to the website, Google will most by all odds grant it a higher ranking.

Without offering a determinate rule, Cutts invited others to think hard about whether or not to implement tag clouds. He explained that less is more could be the recipe for using tag clouds; and that none at all is optimum.

In tag clouds, duplicate content, which you can get penalized by Google for, occurs when the link created leads to the tag URL when it has the like content as in the post url, homepage url, and other urls you created for the post in your website. When visitors get to the tag URL, thinking the link bears something else, and get that it has the duplicate content as the post, it’s not hard to imagine that they will be disappointed. A web site can easily lose visitors and slip downwards in the rankings this way.

What object lesson can be determined here? Content is emphatically king in the rivalry that is search engine optimization.
