NCIS Season 8 – Things Every NCIS Fan Expects To See (Part 3)

While Gibbs feels this way about Tony, Tony is definitely one to look at Gibbs as not only a mentor and teacher but as a father figure as well. In almost every NCIS episode, Tony will let his admiration for his boss show through, whether telling someone else about Gibbs’ special gifts or whether he is hanging on every word or following Gibbs around like a “Loyal Saint Bernard” as Gibbs once put it.

Tony is always looking for Gibbs’ approval and reassurance of his love. This is especially apparent in the episode “Missing” when Tony keeps saying, “I know you missed me, boss” until Gibbs turns and tells him, “Tony, you are irreplacable.”

Every time Gibbs gives Tony a compliment on NCIS, you see Tony’s face light up as if he has been given a great reward – which is usually the case since Gibbs doesn’t hand out that many compliments. And the expression on Tony’s face in the episode Sandblast, when Gibbs tells a homeless man, “My son, Tony plays that game all the time”, says it all. He wants Gibbs to consider him a son.

McGee and Tony have a brother relationship on NCIS. Tony is the older brother who likes to give younger brother, McGee a hard time. This started out as a “probie hazing” but has continued on throughout the seasons. Many people might think that Tony is just being annoying when teasing McGee, however, it is clear that Tony cares a great deal about McGee and just doesn’t want to see him get hurt. No episode of NCIS made this more apparent than these two – Witness and Probie.

In both episodes, McGee felt badly about people dying (in Witness, a girl McGee liked was strangled before he could help her and in Probie, McGee shot and killed a man) and Tony helped him through it with support and some encouraging words.

While older brothers will look out for their younger brothers, they also love to tease them. Tony is no exception to the rule. He is the “jock” brother who makes fun of his nerdy younger brother. With that comes nicknames. These include probie, probaliciious, Probie-Wan-Kenobi, McGoogle, McCrazy and my personal favorite McGeek. But whatever nickname Tony is using, you can tell he is teasing. If anyone else outside of the NCIS team were to try that, Tony would have their head.
